When a nobleman ends up on pirate ship all bets are off and adventure begins that will change the course of more than one man’s life.
If you love a good historical queer romance with pirates, action, adventure, and the kind of drama that comes from finding yourself in the wrong place at the right time, then A Prince Among Pirates by Katie Abdou is going to be a must read. While this is the debut novel for Abdou, it’s clear that she is a wordsmith who can keep you turning the pages from the very beginning. This is a story that is engages the imagination even as you wait to see what’s going to happen next.
While I’m typically not a historical romance or fiction reader, there was something so entertaining about this story that I didn’t even care that it was set in the past. In fact, it felt more like a fantasy than a historical read, which made it that much more entertaining. I wanted to see what would happen for Kit as he tried to escape a life that he didn’t feel he belonged in. And the fact that his journey landed him on a pirate ship just felt so fitting, because trouble seemed to follow Kit. Pairing a nobleman and a pirate just works, especially if you’re a bit of Pirates of the Caribbean fan, as it really gave me the Turner and Swann vibes.
If you want to read something fresh and engaging this summer, then A Prince Among Pirates is the way to go. And if you want to know more, check out the blurb of the book from Simon & Schuster below:
“Kit Davenport is in trouble—not that this would surprise anyone who knows him. Headstrong, reckless, and utterly unsuited for the stodgy House of Lords, Kit has spent years dodging his father’s stern disapproval and delighting in clandestine rendezvous. But time is running out. With an arranged marriage looming and the confines of white wigs and stiff decorum closing in, Kit is desperate to escape a life that feels completely wrong for him.
His solution? A wildly impulsive decision that lands him aboard the Deliverance, a galleon captained by the infuriatingly charismatic Reggie Sharpe. With a devil-may-care attitude and a delicious grin, Captain Sharpe commands the waves with his crew of misfits…who all turn out to be pirates. Before Kit can say “wrong ship,” he’s trading ballroom etiquette for rum-soaked camaraderie, explosive gunfights, and, perhaps most excitingly, heart-stopping kisses under the stars.
But life at sea holds just as many secrets as treasures. And when Kit’s past catches up with him, he’ll have to decide who he truly wants to be: a gentleman or a pirate?”
