Sometimes, a title and cover just speak to you, and that’s exactly how it felt with Anderson in Bloom by Jennifer Dugan. Plus, the title just screams spring, which is something all of us are wishing for at this point.
For those who aren’t familiar, Jennifer Dugan is the author of Hot Dog Girl, Love at First Set, and Some Girls Do. While I haven’t read anything from Dugan’s catalog, Anderson in Bloom gave me the push I needed to explore more of her titles.
With that being said, I’d like to thank Avon for providing me with a digital ARC so I was able to read this one early and share my thoughts on release day. Frankly, this book ended up being such a surprise in so many different ways.
Whether you’re someone who is on the hunt for more sapphic romances or just want something to help kickstart your spring reading, then Anderson in Bloom is a great place to start.
Anderson in Bloom is an angst-filled romance you won’t want to put down.
Anderson in Bloom starts by introducing us to our main character, Andy. It seems like she’s living a quiet and secluded life as a florist. However, things quickly take a turn when Andy finds out her former co-star and girlfriend is writing a book. Given that she walked away from Hollywood, this isn’t what she wants to hear.
She drunkenly reaches out to Nikki, resulting in Nikki showing up at the flower shop, which is located in New England. From there, the story focuses on a few different plots, including Andy and Nikki figuring out what they want, Nikki having Andy read and look over the book, and Nikki ordering flower arrangement after flower arrangement from Andy’s shop.
While it might seem like there’s a lot going on, Dugan does a great job of breaking it up and giving you a little bit of each at a time. In addition, there’s also a side romance going on between Andy’s two best friends. I’d absolutely love a novella about those two, but that’s for another day.
The romance between Andy and Nikki gave me all the tension and angst I was looking for. It truly felt like watching a movie play out in front of me. These two had so much to discuss, and seeing how they worked through their past and their current situation was incredible. This book also didn’t shy away from showing some steamy scenes, which don’t always happen in sapphic stories.
Anderson in Bloom felt like the perfect second-chance sapphic story and the best book to add to your spring TBR.
