Dolly Parton is not just a musician or a philanthropist. In fact, she is a multi-hyphenate if we ever saw one. And over the last few years, she has showcased that she is just as talented inside the kitchen as she is outside of it.
Not only did she and her sister do a partnership with a meal delivery service in 2024, but she also launched her own line of mixes that allow people to make some amazing baked goods as well. Plus, the sisters released their very own cookbook in the fall of 2024 that features some amazing recipes. And recently she also introduced her new breakfast line that includes pancake mix, original syrup (in a bottle that looks like a guitar), and even some muffin mixes.
I had the opportunity to give their Original Syrup a try for myself thanks to the fine folks at Conagra. And then, in order to get a better feel for the other lineup of breakfast ready products, I hunted down the Banana Nut Muffin and Bread Mix, as well as the Blueberry Muffin and Bread Mix. Unfortunately, I could not find the Buttermilk Pancake Mix or the Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake and Muffin Mix in stores near me.
When it comes to the Original Syrup, I was impressed. It reminded me of Mrs. Butterworth’s but I will say that it was definitely a sweeter syrup. (I should point out that it has been quite a few years since I tried Mrs. Butterworth’s so I don’t remember the sweetness level to compare it fully.) That being said, I loved heating this syrup up with some butter and pouring it over some Eggo Waffles. It was a perfect accompaniment to both classic waffles, as well as blueberry waffles.
Next up was the two muffin mixes, which I really enjoyed. I will say that I wish the banana muffins didn’t have the nuts, but I do understand that a lot of people prefer it that way. (My dentist and I have decided nuts and I are not friends.) But overall, the flavor was there and delivered exactly what I would have hoped for.
The blueberry muffins were also quite tasty. And after baking up the muffins, I really want to try making it as a bread loaf next. I think it could end up becoming a household favorite. Honestly, I don’t mind baking up mixes and skipping all the legwork of making something from scratch, so these mixes were a definite win in my eyes. The only note I have to make with this one is to really pay attention to the timing and temperature on the box because there are two sets of directions on the box depending on if you are doing the muffins or the bread (and while I was paying attention when making the banana nut mix, not so much with the blueberry).
Honestly, with how delicious these two mixes and the syrup were, I really want to give the other breakfast products a try. Plus, I definitely think they could expand to include other flavors and mixes easily now that these Dolly Parton mixes have proven to live up to our high expectations. While they do already have a cornbread mix and a biscuit mix, it feels like there are other breakfast mixes that could be added to the lineup as well, including chocolate muffins, raisin bran muffins, and more.
I think Dolly Parton having a line of cooking and baking products is something I wasn’t expecting, but I am here for. And we want to know what you think. Have you found any of the Dolly Parton mixes or products in a store near you? Have you given them a try? What did you think?
