McDonald’s is leaning into their golden roots (think Golden Arches) and giving us a saucy way to savor the end of summer. Starting on September 3, you can head to your local McDonald’s and get your hands on their new Special Edition Gold Sauce. This sauce is a North Carolina barbecue sauce that has notes of mustard, smoke, and honey. It also has a bit of a vinegar undertone, which really helps add to the kick of flavor.

Not only will you be able to grab this as a sauce on the side, but they are also adding it to some chicken items on the menu. They be offering a Special Edition Gold Snack Wrap, on top of that it will also be available as part of a Bacon Special Edition Gold McCrispy sandwich and a Bacon Special Edition Gold Deluxe McCrispy. Maybe it’s us, but we’re pretty excited for not only the sauce on the side, but also the addition of it to these sandwiches.

McDonald’s is really leaning into the chicken on their menu, and that’s kind of exciting. It means that they understand what their fans want, and they are delivering on that.

Although this new Special Edition Gold Sauce will only be around for a limited time, if it is as popular as we expect it to be, here’s hoping they decide to bring it back. It would not be the first time that a limited edition drop was popular enough for a return to the menu.
