Survivor 49 has been interesting to say the least. But on the October 8 episode, in an unprecedented moment, Jake Latimer was actually bit by a highly venomous snake while sitting on the beach. Because of the nature of the bite, Jake was immediately evacuated from the Kele beach and medical intervened.

This episode gave us a behind-the-scenes moment we have never experienced as we saw what happens if a Survivor contestant must visit the medical facilities. As Jeff Probst explained, the reason we got to see this moment is because of the severity of the situation and the fact that it was a developing situation. Probst also revealed that this was the first time in the history of the show that this has happened, particularly in their current location, where they have been filming for years.

Although it was deemed to be a dry bite, which meant that no venom was passed on to Jake, it was still determined that he would not be able to continue in the game. And as a longtime Survivor viewer, it was quite emotional to see this happen. While we have seen players pulled for medical reasons before, there was something so different about this time. Perhaps it was the fact that it could have been so much worse in terms of the outcome or even how Jake kept reminding people that he was about to become a father. Whatever it was about this situation, it definitely made an impact.

We were sad to see Jake go, but we are thankful that he did not end up being injected with venom by the snake. Hopefully he gets another opportunity to be part of Survivor in the future. And we certainly appreciate Survivor letting everyone know that Jake was healthy and made it home to see his son being born.
