We already know that there was a new, limited edition dipping sauce released at McDonald’s. The Special Edition Gold Sauce is a blend of mustard, honey, smoke, and North Carolina Barbecue sauce. Not only can you grab it with an order of nuggets, but it’s also available on one of their Snack Wraps, as well as two different McCrispy Chicken Sandwiches.
We decided that since Friday is still free fry Friday, and the sauce is currently available on the menu, we needed to try the Special Edition Gold Sauce for ourselves. We also grabbed the classic dipping sauces of Honey Mustard and Barbecue.
The first dip of the Special Edition Gold Sauce was with some McDonald’s fries. And right away, it felt like we were getting a honey mustard and barbecue sauce blend. The smoky flavor combined perfectly with the mustard to give us a smooth dipping sauce that was definitely a winner. We decided to compare the Gold Sauce with the two mainstays of the McDonald’s dipping sauce lineup.
While there is no denying that both Honey Mustard and Barbecue are top tier dips, the Special Edition Gold Sauce really does stand up to the classics. There is a bit more bite to the Gold Sauce, which is actually rather interesting on the taste buds. This is one of those sauces that you can enjoy on nuggets or fries, and that’s always exciting if you want to skip the fries and ketchup combo. It has the tangy zip of the barbecue sauce with the bold bite of the mustard, and just the right amount of sweetness to not overpower whatever you are dipping.
After trying this limited edition sauce we really feel like McDonald’s has another winner with this one. This could become the next icon of the Golden Arches, and it might just become a true fan favorite. We would definitely stock up on this one.
Have you tried this new sauce from McDonald’s? If you have, what did you think?
