Emilia Perez received 13 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Jacques Audiard), and Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldana). The movie premiered on May 28, 2024, and is now available to stream on Netflix. Emilia Perez centers on a lawyer (Saldana) who is hired to help a Mexican cartel leader transition into a woman and disappear. 

The buddy-comedy drama, A Real Pain, stars Jesse Eisenberg (who also directed) and Kieran Culkin. The story follows Eisenberg and Culkin’s characters go on a trip to Poland to learn more about their family history in honor of their late grandmother. A Real Pain is nominated for two Academy Awards, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay. Stream the movie on Hulu.

Last on the list, and my personal favorite, is Alien: Romulus. The sci-fi horror stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Isabela Merced and others. Directed by Fede Alvarez, Alien: Romulus is part of the growing Alien franchise, it was nominated for Best Visual Effects.
