PSA to all parents! In case you missed it (and you likely have) the Dog Man movie is now playing in theaters. Based on the wildly popular children’s books by Dav Pilkey, the animated movie has sadly been let down by its marketing team. If it hadn’t been for another mom, I would have missed opening weekend—and possibly several more weekends after that.
I came across the Dog Man trailer while looking for books to add to my kids’ cart. After that, I never saw a single commercial, poster, or ad for it. The lack of promotion this movie has received feels more like what you’d expect for a small direct-to-TV project. And it’s not like Dog Man has an unknown voice cast. Pete Davidson voices Dog Man’s archnemesis, Petey, while Isla Fisher brings Sarah Hatoff to life, Lil Rel Howery voices Chief, and Ricky Gervais plays Flippy the Fish.
Dav Pilkey’s graphic novels, including Captain Underpants and Cat Kid, are a huge hit with kids. These are some of the first books my kiddos began to read (willingly), so I know they are super excited about seeing the pages come to life on the big screen. The books have always been fun, offering silly stories with colorful characters. I know that after watching this movie, kids are going to want to read even more, something that should always be encouraged.
Do you need another reason to see this movie in theaters? There’s nothing better than bonding with your family over a fun film and some delicious popcorn!
